The Donor Box was designed by Ann Cowperthwaite at the invitation of The Friends of the Gallery of Art and Design at North Carolina State University. The result is a rather playful plexiglass tube with tiered rings that received the money when dropped through the slotted stainless steel top. The weight of the concrete ring stabilizes the tall, narrow tube on top of 4 casters. Pinned security cap screws alleviate the need for a conventional lock and the stainless rods allow the top to swing open when just one pin is removed.
